We met/rallied starting at 10 am near the places everyone slept. one group slept at a church and one group at a hotel and the morning spot was a few miles from each. In a small square park in the downtown area from here we started the march to DC.
while we were waiting on the corner bicyclists started riding by all with the same bikes wearing the same outfits a light blue shorts/short sleeve suit, thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands taking up the entire street as far as the eye could see and who were they but the police unity tour. Really weird. so 1984. and then we started, with me feeling pretty small against their power but whatever it is what it is and they are not gonna stop me.
Walking to DC with about 8 miles to go. It was about 1030-11 when we left. The day seems so focused in my mind about just wanting to get to freedom plaza but it was also filled with much of the day before singing, chanting, a little bit of dancing and it was mother’s day and the mothers led the march. I stayed back not wanting to walk in the front, not wanting to be stuck in one place, move around so I could capture everything so I took pictures and video.
At about 330-4 we reached Freedom plaza and there there were more speeches for the people who welcomed us there all relaying the message of justice, but I wouldn’t know since I was passed out on the closest piece of concrete I could sleep on after stepping into the park.
